Turn and repent

REPENT! Just turn away from your sins and you will find the forgiveness of God!

So say too many preachers from pulpit.

In my opinion this is a partial truth and it turns God's forgiveness into something we can play around with and get in scavenger hunt fashion. We are forever moving, forever turning up clues, forever seeking, never really obtaining what we're after.

Let's put this on the compass points of a map, just for the sake of simplicity. For the analogy, we'll put God at the western edge of the Map and ourself in the center. To start out, we'll say we're facing a sin we're committing on the side. We want to repent. So we turn from it.... to the sin we commit in the north. Have we truly repented? We turned from our sin. Isn't that all it takes?

Let's further this. Let's say we get sick of the sin in the north. So sick of it we completely turn fully around, facing the sin in the south. We turned from that sin we were committing. Have we truly repented?

The only way to truly repent? Turn to face God. Don't simply turn away from your sin. That's a trap that will cause you to fall into another. There is only one way to turn to truly repent and get away from sins.

Face God.
