"Let my people go"

In ancient times, a petition was brought before the ruling body of the nation. We know there were two powerful factions represented. In Exodus 7:11 they are called the wise men and the sorcerers. In 2 Timothy 3:8 these two factions are named as two men, Jannes and Jambres.

The petition was simply for the people to worship God the way He wanted. Not only was this petition denied, the people were severely punished. They had supplies taken from them. They began wandering around the country looking for replacements. They begged for relief. Instead, they were told it was their own fault for being lazy (Exodus 5:17-18).

The second time the petition came before the ruler, a demonstration was even given, proving that God was not only as powerful as Jannes and Jambres, but more powerful. After that, the plagues began.

What about modern times? The petition was not put forward until there had been change of who was sitting on the throne. What if all the Christians in America rallied together in the next Presidential election and voted in a man they thought would favor them in ways the current President has not? Then, instead of giving them what they voted him in for, he turned on them, calling them lazy and idle, and started cutting away government provisions?
